Symantec Offers Webcast on Leveraging Early Warning Solutions to Protect Against Internet Security Threats Before They Strike

CUPERTINO, Calif. - October 14, 2003 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced it will host a Webcast titled “Staying One Step Ahead of Attackers with Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System.” This Webcast is ideal for IT security professionals who are interested in learning how Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System – the world’s most comprehensive early warning system, can protect their critical networks from new security threats, before they happen.

The Webcast will be held on Thursday, October 16 at 8:00 am and again at 11:00 am Pacific Time.

Attendees can register at http://enterprisesecurity.symantec.com/content/webcastinfo.cfm?webcastid=67.

Dee Liebenstein, Group Product Manager for Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System, will lead the Webcast and discuss how Symantec early warning solutions can help enterprises reduce or even avoid damages from the more than 70 new vulnerabilities and viruses identified each week.

Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System tracks threats as they develop and gives organizations the empirical data necessary to make informed and intelligent corporate security decisions. In addition to firewall and intrusion detection data generated by 20,000 partner sites in more than 180 countries, worldwide virus data is also incorporated into the Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System. Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System is a comprehensive early warning system that tracks global threats as they develop. As one element of an effective enterprise security program, Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System enhances security efforts by delivering proactive early notification of active attacks and new threats to help users better manage risk. The service provides customized alerts based on network configurations complemented by expert threat analysis, actionable assessments and decision support.

“Security professionals are challenged everyday by the growing number of threats spreading with increased speed and limited internal resources to combat these threats, said Liebenstein. “This Webcast will offer security managers an opportunity to learn how Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System can provide advanced warnings of attacks, with targeted analysis and recommendations from a team of Symantec Security analysts monitoring the Internet 24 hours a day. These recommendations allow customers to prioritize their internal actions and resources, and reduce the possibility of damage.”

Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System is supported by Symantec Security Response, the world’s leading Internet security content, research and support organization. Symantec Security Response leverages sophisticated threat and early warning systems to help provide customers with comprehensive, global, 24x7 Internet security expertise to proactively guard against today’s complex threats.
