Symantec Offers Webcast Highlighting Results of Its Internet Security Threat Report

Discussion Provides Insight to the Current State of Cyber Security Worldwide

CUPERTINO, Calif. - February 5, 2003 - Symantec Corp., (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security technology, today announced that it will host a Webcast that provides an overview of its most recent Internet Security Threat Report. Symantec's Internet Security Threat Report, released February 3, represents the most comprehensive assessment of emerging and future Internet threats. Leveraging the full breadth of Symantec's technology and service offerings, the Report is based on data and analysis that cover the full spectrum of information security, including network-based cyber attacks, vulnerability analysis, and malicious code. Analysis of this data produces a global view of issues such as: the rate and severity of cyber attacks; the types of vulnerabilities that may pose a significant threat to organizations; and emerging trends in malicious code that present the greatest risk to the Internet community.

Amit Yoran, Vice President, Symantec Managed Security Services, will lead the Webcast. His discussion will help Webcast attendees to gain a deeper understanding of the state of overall Internet threats, and what these threats mean to their organizations.

For the first time, Symantec reports that the level of total cyber attack activity has decreased, falling 6 percent in the second half of 2002. The report also found that damage caused by recent blended threats, such as Opaserv, was considerably less than that caused by old threats, such as Code Red. Mixed with the encouraging news, Symantec also documented 2,524 new vulnerabilities in 2002, an increase of 81.5 percent over 2001. Symantec believes that the possibility of future, high impact, blended threats continues to represent one of the greatest risks to the Internet community.
