Symantec Protects HP Consumer Desktop and Notebook PCs Worldwide

Norton AntiVirus Is Preinstalled On HP Pavilion Desktop And Notebook Systems

CUPERTINO, Calif. - October 15, 2002 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced its Norton AntiVirus is preinstalled on all HP Pavilion desktop and notebook consumer PCs worldwide. Norton AntiVirus is the world's most trusted antivirus solution for home computer users.

"HP clearly understands the importance of security to today's PC and notebook users," said Steve Cullen, senior vice president, Consumer and Client Product Delivery at Symantec. "We applaud HP for providing their customers not only exceptionally powerful yet easy-to-use computers for home and personal use but also the tools needed to keep those systems and data safe from today's most intrusive and destructive online threats."

"This agreement underscores HP's ongoing commitment to ensuring the best possible computing experience for our customers," said Tom Anderson, vice president of marketing, HP's consumer PC business unit. "With Symantec's award-winning antivirus solution safeguarding our desktop and notebook consumer PCs from viruses, worms, and Trojan horses, HP customers can be sure that their home computing investments are well protected right out of the box."

Under terms of the agreement, HP ships full versions of Norton AntiVirus with a 60-day subscription period on HP Pavilion desktop and notebook PCs worldwide. Per an earlier agreement, Symantec security solutions are protecting HP's consumer desktop PCs from virus infection during the manufacturing process by scanning the computers for viruses before they are boxed and shipped out to consumers.

Norton AntiVirus provides comprehensive virus prevention, detection, and repair for PC users. It finds and repairs infected files to keep data safe and secure. In addition, Norton AntiVirus automatically updates virus definitions to protect against both new and emerging viruses. A one-year virus definition subscription renewal may be purchased after the expiration of the initial 60-day subscription period.
