Symantec Vice President Named Channel Executive of the Year

VARBusiness Honors Allyson Seelinger for Outstanding Achievements

CUPERTINO, Calif. - August 23, 2002 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that Allyson Seelinger, vice president of North America Enterprise and Consumer Channels at Symantec, was named Channel Executive of the Year by VARBusiness Magazine.

The award is a new component of the prestigious VARBusiness Annual Report Card (ARC) study and was one of four special awards handed out this year in San Diego at the CMP Breakaway XChange Conference, the industry's largest annual gathering of distribution and solution provider professionals. VARBusiness editors also named Symantec the overall award winner in the Security Management Software category during the 17th annual ARC awards.

"The 2002 VARBusiness Channel Executive of the Year winner has nurtured a consistent, stable ecosystem in which third-party business partners can thrive," said Robert DeMarzo, editorial director of VARBusiness Magazine. "Allyson has gone to battle on behalf of partners internally, making sure the value proposition for solution providers is preserved and enhanced with more money, more attention from executive management, and more commitment from employees throughout her organization."

The VARBusiness Channel Executive of the Year award honors outstanding achievement in the area of solution provider and business partner management. Chosen by the editors of VARBusiness Magazine, the award recognizes individual excellence in partner engagement, program management, solution provider return on investment, and business success.

Before selecting the VARBusiness 2002 Channel Executive of the Year, the editors of the publication poured through the results of the 2002 Annual Report Card survey, the industry's oldest and largest study of partner satisfaction. They also interviewed scores of partners and top independent market research analysts who follow IT distribution channels. According to editors, as the inaugural winner of the 2002 Channel Executive of the Year award, Seelinger demonstrated innovation in program management, commitment to the partner community, and success in market momentum generation. Seelinger also achieved success in partner satisfaction, as evidenced by Symantec's overall win in the year's ARC survey in the category of security management software.

Seelinger joined Symantec in 1987 and, as vice president of North America Enterprise and Consumer Channels, is currently responsible for Symantec's sales and marketing activities within the consumer, distribution, OEM, VAR, and Corporate Reseller segments.
