Symantec Protects World's Fastest Personal Computers

Intel Chooses Symantec as Internet Security Standard for the Pentium 4 Processor, the World's Fastest Processor for Personal Computers

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Jan. 24, 2001 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), a world leader in Internet security, and Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) today announced the inclusion of Norton Internet Security 2001 with the Intel Pentium 4 processor-based Intel Desktop Board D850GB. As part of the Intel Desktop Board D850GB package, Norton Internet Security 2001 will safeguard the Internet connections of app roximately four million Intel Pentium 4 users. Businesses and consumers purchasing a D850GB desktop board-based system with the Pentium 4 processor will automatically benefit from an Internet-ready appliance, with the added capability of maintaining the integrity and safety of confidential information on the PC through Norton Internet Security 2001.

"As businesses and individuals increase the volume of their transactions on the Internet, the security of their communications and data becomes a critical issue," said Steve Cullen, senior vice president of Consumer Products Division. "The combination of Symantec's best-of breed anti-virus and security protection with Intel's fastest platform, offers an immediate, convenient and efficiently secured system desired by today's PC users."

Norton Internet Security 2001 provides essential Internet protection in a complete, integrated security and privacy suite, allowing consumers to safely use broadband connections to shop, bank and play online. The powerful Norton Personal Firewall solution controls all Internet connections to and from the computer and blocks attempted intrusions. Norton Privacy Control prevents personal data from being sent online to unsecure web sites without the user's knowledge and the Ad Blocking component removes online banner advertising for faster download speeds. Norton Internet Security also includes the award winning Norton AntiVirus software which protects the user's computer from viruses and malicious code at all entry points, including e-mail attachments and Internet downloads. Live Update offers the most current security and anti-virus definitions via the Internet.

"Symantec offers a security product compatible with the advanced computing power of the Intel Pentium 4 processor to support the quality and added-value commitment of Intel desktop boards," said Tom Matson, marketing director for Intel's Desktop Boards and Systems Marketing Group. "With protection from Norton Internet Security 2001, consumers benefit from the reliability, safety, and ease of use of the Intel Pentium 4 processor for a broad spectrum of Internet activities."

The inclusion of Norton Internet Security 2001 with the D850GB desktop board follows the success of the Fall 2000 shipment of Symantec's Norton Internet Security Family Edition with selected Intel desktop boards. The complete protection provided by Norton Internet Security 2001 compliments the high-performance technology and advanced Internet capabilities of the Intel Pentium 4 processor, providing essential protection in a single integrated security and privacy suite.
