Symantec to Integrate AntiVirus Protection Into Oracle Internet File System

Symantec CarrierScan Server 2.0 To Offer Scan/Repair for Files Accessed Over the Web

TORONTO, Ont. - Dec. 19, 2000 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), a world leader in Internet security technology, today announced plans to integrate Symantec's upcoming carrier-class anti-virus technology, CarrierScan Server 2.0, with Oracle* Internet File System. This integration is scheduled to be available by January 2001. Symantec's CarrierScan Server 2.0 will provide users with confidence that documents stored and managed by Oracle Internet File System are automatically protected from the threat of malicious viruses, worms, mobile code, and Trojan Horses.

Oracle Internet File System, a feature of the Oracle database, provides a single location to store, manage and search all Internet content including documents, presentations, multimedia, web pages, and XML files. Oracle Internet File System supports a variety of common protocols allowing users to access content from a Windows file system, web browser, email application, or file transfer protocol. Check-in/check-out and version control features allow users to collaborate more effectively. Developers can extend these base features to build custom content management applications. Symantec is integrating its CarrierScan Server 2.0 with Oracle Internet File System so that from wherever users access information, they will be fully protected from computer viruses.

Symantec's CarrierScan Server 2.0 provides automatic virus scanning protection when files are accessed from the Oracle Internet File System. This carrier-class solution provides all of the necessary scalability and robustness required for Internet deployment.

Availability
Symantec's CarrierScan Server 2.0 integrated with the Oracle Internet File System is scheduled to be available by January 2001.
