Symantec Releases WinFax PRO 10.0 - The Preferred Choice Among Small Businesses for Sending, Receiving, Managing Faxes

Extended Feature Set Elevates Professional Image, Leverages Existing Computing Solutions, Eases Usability, and Improves Business Management

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Feb. 28, 2000 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced WinFax PRO 10.0, the leading software product for sending, receiving, and managing faxes. WinFax PRO 10.0 provides complete fax capabilities to Windows 95/98/NT/2000 PCs, giving small businesses, home offices and mobile workers the most advanced, easy-to-use professional fax software for communicating with clients, partners, and associates.

WinFax PRO 10.0 offers high-quality faxes which can be sent to e-mail addresses in a self-viewing format. WinFax PRO also integrates with key business applications and is easy to set up, learn, and use. Together, these capabilities make WinFax PRO 10.0 the most effective tool for managing both sent and received faxes.

"Since its launch in 1990, WinFax PRO has not only been widely regarded as the fax solution of choice for mobile and small-business professionals worldwide, but it also has consistently kept pace with the changing needs of an increasingly sophisticated user community," said Steve Cullen, senior vice president of Symantec's Consumer Products Division. "Like its predecessors, WinFax PRO 10.0 is raising the bar for desktop fax solutions by offering productivity-enhancing features users need to thrive in today's complex and demanding business environment."

WinFax PRO 10.0 includes several new features to help professionals improve productivity and enhance their business image. With WinFax PRO 10.0, users can send a fax to an e-mail address in a self-viewing format and forward a received fax as a self-viewing e-mail attachment. Rather than experience incompatibility issues common with other solutions, recipients of these emails are able to open and view the self-viewing attachments with or without WinFax PRO software installed on their computers. Also, a new feature automatically sends faxes with photo quality images enabling users to place their signature on the cover or body pages of outgoing faxes.

In contrast to the limited flexibility offered by stand-alone fax machines and current online fax services, WinFax PRO 10.0 integrates with today's most popular business applications, enabling small businesses to maximize their computing investment. To ensure that all integration components function on first launch, a new auto configure feature performs an automatic check for all applications that integrate with WinFax PRO 10.0. In addition to continued support of ACT! 4.0/2000 and Outlook 98/2000, WinFax PRO 10.0 integrates with Outlook Express 98/2000 and Goldmine 4.0 and up. WinFax PRO 10.0 provides a link to the Outlook Express contact list within WinFax PRO's send screen for use as a source of fax numbers. Goldmine customers can use their contacts as a phonebook within WinFax PRO 10.0 via a link to the GoldMine contact list within the WinFax PRO send screen.

One of the most unique characteristics of WinFax PRO 10.0 is its intuitive interface, updated to minimize the learning curve for small, growing businesses. In addition to extending support to Windows 2000 environments, WinFax PRO 10.0 features drag-and-drop faxing whereby users simply drag a document to a desktop icon to have it automatically faxed. WinFax PRO 10.0 also includes enhanced dialling rules, which handle multiple, split, and overlaid area codes and enable the configuration of multiple local area codes.

To make it easier for small businesses to maintain clear and accurate communications records, WinFax PRO 10.0 enables users to store faxes in standard Windows folders rather than inside WinFax. A new component works with CallerID and/or CSID to automatically discard unwanted junk faxes. In addition, an innovative and flexible reporting module provides the ability to generate printable reports detailing sent and received faxes based on date range and/or recipient.

Pricing
WinFax PRO 10.0 is available now for $178 (CND). Users of any version of WinFax may upgrade to WinFax PRO 10.0 for $103(CND). Customers can purchase WinFax PRO10.0 at Symantec's online store at http://ca.symantecstore.com as well as through other retailers.
