My identity has been stolen! What do I do?

If you find your personal details have been stolen, there are a few steps you should take immediately:
  • Contact the police.

  • Contact your credit providers so you're not charged for any debts incurred.

  • Carefully review your bank and credit card statements to identify what, when and where questionable charges to your account(s) have occurred.

  • Register with the Australian Identity Protection Register (the police will work with you to do this if your identity is stolen).

  • Record all correspondence you make regarding this issue.
